1870 vs. El Remanso

Sunday 11^th July saw the 1870 team take to the fields of Cowdray Park once more to take part in the quarter finals of the Gold Cup. The air was tense in anticipation for the first of the knock out games which would either mean progression to in the tournament or a long horse ride into the sunset. After a thrilling first half which saw each team putting all of their efforts into playing the field and a succession of goals, Silver Spring pulled out in front, leading El Remanso by 1 goal.

As the second half got underway, the competing side began to push back with some stunning turns and back shots. The 1870 men played on bravely matching the competition shot for shot throughout the second half but ultimately El Remanso were victorious with a 14-11 win over our chaps.

Well done on an amazing season Team 1870, from winning the Midhurst Town Cup to your incredible performance in the Gold Cup, you did us proud!

Silver Spring 1870 vs Dubai…

The second match of Silver Spring 1870’s Gold Cup tournament saw the team pitched against the legendary Dubai team, renowned for their fast, furious and flawless style of play. Things got off to a tough start for the Silver Spring chaps as Adolfo Cambiaso, Dubai’s 10 goal player and the man touted to be the best player in the world, was on formidable form, smashing six goals home in the first chukka to Silver Spring’s two.

As the game entered the second chukka it looked as though Silver Spring would find it difficult to come back against the might of Dubai. However; JP Clarkin and Rob Archibald quickly seemed to settle into the game and began playing incredibly well, peppering the game with quick turns and thundering shots, racking up the goals and giving Dubai a real run for their money.

Adrian Kirby and Ruki Ballieu also had remarkable games. Kirby’s ability to stay on the ball left the Silver Spring supporters whooping and cheering in support; a certain Nina Clarkin was particularly enthusiastic about Kirby’s efforts. Unfortunately, Ruki; one of our star players, was injured in the second half and had to be escorted off the field and replaced with a 6 goal player from the sidelines.

After a match filled with terrifying pace and precision, Dubai clinched victory with a 13 – 12 victory over Silver Spring 1870. Dubai’s one goal victory was not enough to end Silver Spring 1870’s Gold Cup campaign and they go on to play Les Lions on July 5^th.

Alexandra Burke Heads to NuBeginnings

In preparation for the upcoming INCA trail, the gorgeous Alexandra Burke spent last week kick-starting her training programme at luxury boutique bootcamp, NuBeginnings in Ilfracombe, Devon.

“I’m determined to be in best shape ever. I went to NuBeginnings bootcamp for a week to kick-start my training.”

Whilst at the retreat, Alexandra took part in a number of activities including hikes through the North Devon Countryside with a trained hiking guide, morning fitness sessions on the beach with the NuBeginnings fitness instructors, pilates, circuit and boxercise classes in the studio, aromatherapy and meditation sessions, cooking demonstrations with residential Chef, Gary and 1-1 fitness tutorials.

Alexandra will be taking part in the INCA trail in September for Breast Cancer Care with Fearne Cotton and Denise Van Outen.

Team 1870 rides to Midhurst Town Cup victory

Silver Spring 1870’s polo team are on fine form this season which they proved on Sunday 20^th June when they took home an extremely nice piece of Silverware in the form of the Midhurst Town Cup.

The exhibition match at historic Cowdray Park Polo Club saw the 1870 team come up against Salkeld and ultimately romp to victory over the opposing team. Each chukka was more thrilling, fast and furious than the last, ending at a final score of 10 – 9 to Silver Spring, well done team!

Booby Birds take to the skies

PHA Media’s Fashion & Lifestyle team recently attended Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s skydive event in Oxford. This was the climax to a campaign entitled ‘The Breakthrough Booby Birds’, which involved fourteen highly successful and inspirational women committing to raising £20,000 each for the charity plus take part in a tandem skydive on 22^nd May at RAF Weston-on-the-Green. The women included Broadcaster and TV Presenter, Caroline Feraday, Harrods Fashion & Beauty Director, Marigay McKee and many of the City’s finest banking brains. With the most perfect weather it was a wonderful atmosphere with many of the women’s friends and family turning up to support their ‘Booby Bird’. To date the women have collectively raised a quarter of a million pounds for the charity with more still to come. This is an absolutely incredible achievement and the PHA team were so proud to attend and watch the women emulate the freefall women go through when diagnosed with breast cancer. Their courage and fundraising will go a long way at Breakthrough Breast Cancer and we can’t wait for next year’s event!!

PHA at the Polo

The fashion and lifestyle team visited Coworth Park Polo yesterday as guests of new client, Great British soft drinks brand Silver Spring 1870 Mixers. Silver Spring 1870, who are sponsoring the 2010 season at Guards Polo Club, invited the team to Coworth Park to take in the chukkas and watch the Silver Spring 1870 polo team in action! World renowned Silver Spring players John Paul Clarkin, Rob Archibald and Jack ‘Ruki’ Ballieu took part in the thrilling game against Emlor. After six fast and furious chukkas; Silver Spring were the victors with a final score of 11 – 6. We are looking forward to a polo packed summer during 2010 and a successful season for the Silver Spring 1870 team!

Over the next six months we will be working with Silver Spring to help reposition their range of 1870 drinks (which consists of five traditional flavours) as a trendy drink and the ultimate mixer. To kick-start promoting the brand, 1870 have signed on to be the soft drinks sponsor for the Guards Polo – which runs from April until September. In addition to leverage PR from 1870’s association with the Polo, we will be targeting national, consumer and regional for product placement opportunities.
